Maytag Washer Error Code LL

LL stands for Large Load Detected. Your Maytag washer has sensed that the laundry inside the drum is too heavy or too large for the selected wash cycle. The machine uses motor resistance and drum feedback to make this determination. Reducing the load size and restarting the cycle is the first recommended step.

A power reset, done by unplugging the machine for one to two minutes and plugging it back in, may clear the code temporarily. However, if the underlying cause is an overloaded or unbalanced drum, the code will return as soon as the load-sensing phase runs again. Address the load size first before attempting a reset.

In most cases, the LL code requires no repair at all since it is resolved by simply reducing the laundry load, which costs nothing. If a faulty control board or sensor circuit is causing a false reading, repair costs can range from around $150 to $400 or more depending on parts and labor in your area. A service call for diagnosis typically runs between $75 and $150 before any parts are added.

Open the lid and remove a portion of the laundry, then redistribute the remaining items evenly around the drum. Restart the cycle and the machine should proceed normally once the load is within acceptable limits. If the code appears repeatedly with reasonable load sizes, check for uneven distribution or a single heavy item that may be throwing off the sensor reading.

Running the washer repeatedly with an oversized load is not recommended because it places extra strain on the motor, drive components, and suspension system over time. The LL alert is designed to prevent this type of wear. Reduce the load to a safe size before continuing to use the machine.
