Samsung Washer Error Code E2

Switch Error / Main Relay Error

Switch Error / Main Relay Error – a tact switch or power switch may be stuck, service PBA holding screws fastened too tight pinching contacts, or main PBA switching IC on/off error. Also occurs if main relay connections are incorrect.

First step from the service manual

Check whether the Power switch or any tact switch (button) is stuck down. Check whether service PBA holding screws are fastened too tight.

What E2 means on a Samsung washer

The Samsung washer E2 error code indicates a Switch Error or Main Relay Error. This fault originates in the control system, specifically involving the tact switches (the physical buttons on the control panel), the power switch, the service PBA (Printed Board Assembly), or the main relay circuit on the main PBA. The control board monitors switch states continuously, and if it detects that a switch signal is being held in an active state when it should not be, or if the relay switching IC fails to properly open or close the relay contacts, the E2 code is triggered.

One of the most common and often overlooked causes is mechanical: the screws that secure the service PBA to the machine can be overtightened during installation or prior service. When these screws are too tight, they physically deform or pinch the board, which can cause switch contacts on the PBA to press together unintentionally, mimicking a stuck button signal. Similarly, a tact switch on the control panel that is physically stuck in the depressed position sends a constant input signal to the control board, which the board interprets as a fault condition.

The error also covers relay-level faults on the main PBA. If the switching IC responsible for driving the main relay malfunctions, or if the relay wiring connections are incorrect or have become loose, the board cannot properly control power distribution to the motor and other components. This type of fault is more likely to require component-level diagnosis or board replacement, as internal IC failures are generally not field-repairable.

Common causes of E2

  1. 01

Stuck tact switch or power button

    Wiring / connection

A physical button on the control panel that is jammed in the pressed position sends a continuous signal to the control board, triggering the E2 fault. Press each button to check for one that feels stuck, does not spring back, or feels different from the others.

  2. 02

    Service PBA holding screws overtightened

    Wiring / connection

If the screws securing the service PBA are fastened too tightly, they can pinch the board and cause unintended contact between switch traces. Loosen the screws slightly and check whether the error clears.

  3. 03

    Main relay wiring connection error

    Wiring / connection

Incorrect or loose wiring connections at the main relay can prevent the relay from functioning properly, triggering the E2 code. Inspect all connector positions at the main relay to confirm they are seated correctly.

  4. 04

    Main PBA switching IC failure

    Part replacement

The IC on the main PBA that controls the switching of the main relay can malfunction, causing the relay to fail to open or close on command. This is an internal board-level fault and typically requires replacing the main PBA.

  5. 05

    Damaged or failed service PBA

    Part replacement

Physical damage to the service PBA from overtightening, corrosion, or wear can permanently damage switch contacts or traces. If loosening the mounting screws does not resolve the error, the service PBA may need replacement.

Frequently asked questions about E2

What does E2 mean on a Samsung washer?
The E2 error on a Samsung washer indicates a Switch Error or Main Relay Error. It means the control system has detected a problem with a tact switch or power switch, a relay wiring issue, or a fault in the relay switching IC on the main PBA. It can also be caused by the service PBA mounting screws being fastened too tightly, which physically pinches the board and creates a false switch signal.
Can I fix the E2 error on my Samsung washer myself?
Some causes of the E2 error are DIY-friendly. Start by pressing each button on the control panel to check for any that feel stuck. If a prior repair was recently performed, check whether the service PBA screws were overtightened and loosen them if needed. Relay wiring connections can also be inspected and reseated without special tools. If the fault points to a failed switching IC or damaged PBA, professional repair or board replacement is recommended.
Is it safe to use my Samsung washer when the E2 error is showing?
You should not continue using the washer while the E2 error is active. A main relay fault means the board may not be able to reliably control power to the motor and other internal components. Running the machine in this state could result in unpredictable behavior or additional component damage.
Will resetting my Samsung washer clear the E2 error?
A reset alone is unlikely to permanently clear the E2 error if an underlying hardware issue is present. You can try unplugging the washer for a few minutes and restarting it, but if a button is stuck, the PBA screws are overtightened, or a relay component has failed, the error will return. The root cause must be corrected before the fault will stay cleared.
How much does it cost to repair a Samsung washer E2 error?
Repair costs vary widely depending on the cause. If a stuck button or an overtightened screw is the issue, there may be no parts cost at all. If the service PBA needs replacement, parts and labor typically range from around 80 to 200 dollars. A main PBA replacement is more expensive, generally falling in the range of 150 to 350 dollars or more depending on the model and labor rates in your area.
