Samsung Washer Error Code OE
A fault is detected in the water level sensor
A fault is detected in the water level sensor. Data (frequency) shows the water level is at or above the overflow water level. The machine will automatically start draining water until the water level falls below the reset water level.
First step from the service manual
First check to see that all water valves are not stuck. If water valves are OK, check water level.

What OE means on a Samsung washer
The OE error code on a Samsung washer indicates a fault detected by the water level sensor (pressure sensor). Specifically, the sensor's frequency output is reading at or above the threshold programmed as the overflow water level. When this condition is detected, the washer's control board interprets it as a dangerously high water level and automatically initiates a drain cycle, continuing to pump water out until the sensor frequency drops back below the reset water level threshold. This is a protective function designed to prevent water overflow and potential flooding.
The water level sensor works by measuring air pressure in a sealed chamber connected to the tub. As water rises, it compresses the air in the chamber, and the sensor translates that pressure into a frequency signal read by the control board. If the sensor is faulty, the air trap hose is blocked or kinked, or water genuinely is overfilling due to a stuck-open inlet valve, the control board will receive an abnormal frequency reading and trigger OE. The first diagnostic priority is confirming whether the water level is actually too high or whether the sensor is falsely reporting an overflow condition.
A stuck or continuously running water inlet valve is the most mechanically dangerous cause, as it allows water to keep entering the tub regardless of the control board's commands. A defective pressure sensor or a damaged, disconnected, or clogged air trap hose can produce the same error code without any actual overfill. Checking the inlet valves first, as directed, rules out an active flooding risk before moving on to sensor and hose inspection.

Common causes of OE
- 01
Stuck open water inlet valve
Part replacementIf a water inlet valve fails in the open position, water continuously enters the tub even when the machine is not calling for it, causing a genuine overfill condition. Check whether water is flowing into the drum when the machine is off or idle.
- 02
Faulty water level pressure sensor
Part replacementA defective pressure sensor can send an incorrect frequency signal to the control board, triggering OE even when the actual water level is normal. If the inlet valves are functioning correctly and no overfill is visible, the sensor itself is the next suspect.
- 03
Blocked, kinked, or disconnected air trap hose
Wiring / connectionThe pressure sensor relies on a small hose connecting it to the tub air chamber. If this hose is kinked, clogged with debris or detergent residue, or has come loose, the sensor will receive an inaccurate pressure reading and can falsely report an overflow level.
- 04
Excess detergent causing suds buildup
Wiring / connectionUsing too much detergent or non-HE detergent in an HE washer creates heavy sudsing that the pressure sensor can interpret as a high water level. Running a drum-clean or rinse cycle without detergent can confirm if suds are the issue.
- 05
Control board fault
Part replacementIf the inlet valves, pressure sensor, and air trap hose all test within normal parameters, a failing control board may be misreading the sensor's frequency signal and incorrectly triggering the OE code.
