Bosch Dishwasher Error Code E:20

E:20 on a Bosch dishwasher is a heat pump fault indicated by a flashing Sanitized LED. It means the control system has detected that the heat pump is blocked, clogged, or mechanically impaired and cannot operate correctly. The most common triggers are clogged filters in the sump area or debris obstructing the heat pump itself. In some cases, a seized heat pump impeller is responsible and the pump will need to be replaced.

A reset may temporarily clear the displayed code, but it will not resolve the underlying problem. If the heat pump is still blocked or the impeller is mechanically seized, the E:20 fault will return when the dishwasher attempts to run a cycle. The physical cause must be corrected before the error will clear permanently.

If the problem is simply a clogged filter, there is no parts cost and only your time is required for cleaning. If the heat pump impeller is seized and the heat pump assembly must be replaced, parts and labor costs typically range from $150 to $400 or more depending on your location and the specific model. Getting a repair estimate before proceeding is advisable if the cleaning steps do not resolve the fault.

Start by removing and cleaning both the fine filter screen above the sump and the coarse multi-filter inside the sump, as clogged filters are the most frequent cause. Next, inspect the heat pump area for any debris or obstructions and remove them. If cleaning does not resolve the issue, manually check whether the heat pump impeller rotates freely. If the impeller feels tight or is seized, the heat pump assembly will need to be replaced.

It is not recommended to continue running the dishwasher while the E:20 error is active. Operating the appliance with a blocked or damaged heat pump can place additional strain on the motor and may worsen the damage. Dishes will also not be cleaned or sanitized properly while the fault is present. Address the underlying cause before resuming normal use.
