Error code 3-2 means the control board has detected a shorted condition in the thermistor and OWI temperature sensing circuit. The control is reading an incoming water temperature above 75°C (167°F), which can result from a genuinely overheated water supply, a shorted thermistor, shorted wiring in the harness, or a failed temperature sensor input on the control board itself.

Start by checking your home water heater setting to confirm incoming water is below 75°C (167°F). Next, run the Service Diagnostic cycle to test the temperature sensor's operation. Then unplug the dishwasher and use a multimeter to check resistance and continuity across the thermistor and all wiring in the temperature sensing circuit. Replace any shorted wires or a thermistor that reads out of spec. If all components test good, the control board may need replacement.

After unplugging the dishwasher or disconnecting power, locate the thermistor in the temperature sensing circuit and disconnect its harness connector. Use a multimeter set to resistance (ohms) to measure across the thermistor terminals. A shorted thermistor will read near zero ohms. Compare your reading to the spec in your model's service manual. If the sensor reads shorted or far outside the specified range, replace it. Also inspect the harness wires for visible damage or contact points that could cause a short.

Running the dishwasher while 3-2 is active is not recommended. The control is detecting an abnormal temperature condition, and continuing to operate the machine without resolving the root cause risks exposing dishes, internal components, and the tub to potentially excessive heat. The dishwasher will typically halt operation on its own, and the fault should be diagnosed before running another cycle.

A replacement thermistor for a Jenn-Air dishwasher typically costs $20 to $60 for the part. If only wiring needs repair, cost is minimal.
