TC1 on a Samsung washer indicates a temperature sensor error involving the washing heater temperature sensor, the dry cycle temperature sensor, or the dry condensing sensor connections. The control board has detected a reading outside the valid range from one of these sensors. This can result from a loose connector, a failed sensor, or even an extremely cold installation environment that causes the sensor to read abnormally.

It is not recommended to continue running the washer while TC1 is active. The error indicates the control board cannot confirm accurate temperature readings, which means heating elements could potentially operate outside safe parameters. Running the machine in this condition risks damage to internal components or, in heating-related faults, a fire hazard. Diagnose and resolve the fault before resuming normal use.

If the fix is simply reseating a loose connector, there may be no parts cost at all, though a service call from a technician could run anywhere from $75 to $150 depending on your area. If a temperature sensor needs to be replaced, parts typically range from $15 to $60, with total repair costs including labor falling between $100 and $250. Diagnosing and repairing it yourself, if you are comfortable with basic appliance repair, can keep costs toward the lower end.

Start by unplugging the washer and inspecting the connector for the washing heater temperature sensor, checking that it is fully seated and free of corrosion or damaged pins. If the connector looks fine, use a multimeter to test the sensor resistance and compare it to the expected value. A sensor reading open circuit or out of range needs to be replaced. If all sensors and connections check out, consider whether the machine is installed somewhere subject to freezing temperatures.

A reset, performed by unplugging the washer for a few minutes and restarting, may temporarily clear the TC1 error if the cause was a transient glitch or a freezing condition that has since resolved. However, if the underlying cause is a faulty sensor or a loose connection, the error will return once the machine attempts to read the sensor again during a cycle. A reset alone is not a repair.
