Samsung Washer Error Code TC3

TC3 on a Samsung washer signals a temperature sensor error related to the dry condensing sensor or an abnormally high temperature at the IPM (Intelligent Power Module). The washer shuts down to prevent damage when it detects a reading outside the expected range. The fault can stem from a loose sensor connection, a defective sensor, or genuine overheating of the inverter drive system.

A power reset may temporarily clear the TC3 code, but it will return if the underlying fault is not corrected. If the error is caused by a loose connector, reseating it before resetting may resolve it permanently. However, if the sensor has failed or the IPM is overheating, the code will reappear once the washer attempts to run the affected cycle again.

Repair costs vary depending on the root cause. If the fix is simply reseating a connector, there may be no parts cost, though a diagnostic service call typically runs in the range of $75 to $150. A replacement dry condensing sensor is generally a lower-cost part, while replacing the IPM board is significantly more expensive, often ranging from $200 to $400 or more including labor.

Start by checking the temperature sensor connector to make sure it is firmly seated and free of corrosion or damage. If the connection looks good, test the dry condensing sensor itself for correct resistance values and replace it if it is out of spec. Also check that the washer has adequate ventilation and that no cooling fan in the drive system has failed, as IPM overheating can also cause TC3.

It is not advisable to continue running the washer while TC3 is active. The code exists to protect the unit from heat-related damage to the inverter electronics. Bypassing or repeatedly resetting the error without addressing the root cause risks permanent damage to the IPM board, which is one of the more costly components in the washer.
