What F6 means on a Miele washer
The F6 error code on a Miele washer indicates that the machine failed to reach the correct water level within the allotted fill time. The control board monitors incoming water flow and expects the pressure switch or water level sensor to confirm adequate fill within a specific timeframe. When that confirmation does not arrive, the cycle is halted and F6 is triggered to prevent the machine from running without sufficient water, which could damage the motor, heating element, or drum assembly.
The most common points of failure in this system are the water supply conditions and the intake valve assembly. A partially closed supply tap, a kinked inlet hose, or low household water pressure can all restrict flow to the point where the machine cannot fill fast enough. The intake filters, located at the connection point between the inlet hoses and the valves, are prone to accumulating mineral deposits and debris over time. A clogged filter screen significantly reduces flow rate even when supply pressure is otherwise adequate.
If the water supply and filters check out, attention should shift to the intake valves themselves. These solenoid-operated valves open on command from the control board to allow water into the drum. A valve that is partially seized, has a failed solenoid coil, or is not receiving proper voltage will restrict or completely block water flow. Additionally, a faulty pressure switch or blocked pressure chamber tube can cause the machine to misread the actual water level, triggering F6 even when some water has entered the drum.

Common causes of F6
- 01
Restricted or closed water supply tap
Wiring / connectionIf the hot or cold water supply valve behind the washer is not fully open, water flow into the machine will be too slow to meet the fill requirement. Confirm both taps are turned completely counterclockwise and the inlet hoses are not kinked.
- 02
Clogged water intake filters
Wiring / connectionSmall mesh filter screens sit at the inlet where the hoses connect to the machine and can become blocked with sediment and mineral buildup over time. Unscrew the inlet hoses, remove the filters with needle-nose pliers, and rinse or replace them.
- 03
Low household water pressure
Wiring / connectionMiele washers require a minimum supply pressure to fill within the programmed time window. If pressure in the home is consistently low, especially during peak usage hours, the machine may repeatedly trigger F6.
- 04
Failed water intake valve
Part replacementThe solenoid intake valves control water entry into the drum and can fail mechanically or electrically. A valve that is not opening fully, or whose solenoid coil has failed, will restrict flow and prevent the machine from reaching the correct water level.
- 05
Faulty pressure switch or blocked pressure chamber
Part replacementThe pressure switch signals the control board when the correct water level has been reached. If the switch is defective or the small rubber tube connecting it to the pressure chamber is blocked or cracked, the board will not receive the fill confirmation signal, triggering F6 even if water is entering normally.
