Samsung Range Error Code Top Sensor Short

The Top Sensor Short error means the MICOM on your Samsung range has detected an A/D reading below 10 from the cooktop temperature sensor, indicating a short circuit condition. This can be caused by a failed sensor, damaged wiring in the sensor circuit, contamination on the PCB terminal, or a defective control board. The range flags this error to prevent inaccurate temperature control and potential safety issues.

It is not recommended to operate the cooktop while the Top Sensor Short error is active. The sensor monitors cooktop temperatures, and with it reporting a fault, the range cannot properly regulate heat on the top surface. Continued use without a functioning sensor could lead to overheating or uncontrolled cooking temperatures.

Repair costs vary depending on which component has failed. A replacement cooktop temperature sensor typically costs in the range of $15 to $60 for the part alone. A replacement PCB can range from $80 to $250 or more depending on the model. Adding professional labor will increase the total cost, generally ranging from $100 to $350 or more for a complete repair including diagnosis.

Some cases are DIY-friendly, particularly if the cause is foreign material on the PCB sensor terminal. Disconnecting power, inspecting the terminal for debris or corrosion, and cleaning the contact area may resolve the fault. If the sensor itself has failed or wiring is damaged, replacing those components requires moderate technical skill and comfort working with appliance wiring and connectors.

A power reset by unplugging the range or turning off the circuit breaker for a few minutes may temporarily clear the error display, but the code will return if the underlying fault is not corrected. The MICOM will detect the out-of-range A/D value again as soon as it attempts to read the sensor. A permanent fix requires resolving the short circuit in the sensor, wiring, or PCB.
