F28 indicates a communication failure between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and the Motor Control Unit (MCU). The washer requires a continuous data link between these two boards to operate the drive motor safely. This fault can be triggered by incorrect outlet wiring, a damaged communication harness at the CCU MI3 connector, or a failure in one of the two control boards.

You should not continue running the washer while the F28 code is active. The fault means the motor control system is not receiving reliable instructions from the main control board, which could lead to unpredictable motor behavior. Continued use risks further damage to the control boards or motor components.

Repair costs vary widely depending on the root cause. Correcting outlet wiring may cost nothing or a small fee for an electrician. A replacement communication harness is generally an inexpensive part. If a control board requires replacement, the MCU or CCU parts alone can range from roughly $80 to $250 or more, with additional labor costs if a technician performs the repair.

Some causes of F28 are DIY-friendly. Start by checking your wall outlet for correct polarity and a working ground using an inexpensive plug-in tester. Clearing the error code and unplugging the washer is the recommended first step, and the fault may not return immediately after a reset if the cause is intermittent.
