LG Hvac Error Code 8
IDU fan motor not rotating or not proving rotation.
IDU fan motor not rotating or not proving rotation.
First step from the service manual
Verify fan motor plugged in correctly & fan rotates freely. LS902HPV/LS122HPV/LA09xHV/LA12xHV: verify 310V DC on motor wires with motor plugged in; 0V DC=failed PCB, 310V DC=likely failed motor. Unplug motor and spin fan: 0V DC=motor failed and caused board failure, 14-30V DC=good motor.

What 8 means on a LG hvac
Error code 8 on an LG indoor unit (IDU) indicates that the indoor fan motor is either not rotating or the control board is not receiving confirmation that rotation is occurring. The indoor fan is responsible for drawing air across the evaporator coil and circulating conditioned air into the room. When the PCB does not detect motor operation within the expected startup window, it locks out the system and displays this fault to prevent damage from heat buildup on the coil or motor windings.
For several LG models including the LS902HPV, LS122HPV, LA09xHV, and LA12xHV series, the diagnostic process centers on DC bus voltage at the motor connector. With the motor plugged in, 310V DC should be present on the motor wires. A reading of 0V DC with the motor connected points to a failed control PCB. If 310V DC is present but the motor still does not run, the motor itself is the likely failed component. A secondary check involves unplugging the motor and spinning the fan blade by hand: if voltage then reads between 14 and 30V DC, the motor is intact. A reading of 0V DC in this unplugged state suggests the motor shorted internally and may have caused collateral damage to the PCB.
Common root causes include a motor that has seized due to bearing failure, a disconnected or damaged motor wiring harness, or a control board that has lost the ability to supply the drive voltage. Physical obstructions blocking the fan wheel from turning freely can also trigger this code even when the motor and electronics are fully functional.

Common causes of 8
- 01
Fan blade obstruction
Wiring / connectionDebris, ice buildup, or a displaced component can prevent the fan wheel from rotating freely. Before any electrical diagnosis, manually spin the fan blade to confirm it moves without restriction.
- 02
Failed indoor fan motor
Part replacementThe motor's internal windings or bearings can fail, causing it to seize or short. On affected models, 310V DC present at the motor connector with the motor plugged in but no rotation confirms the motor has failed.
- 03
Disconnected or damaged motor wiring harness
Wiring / connectionThe connector between the motor and the PCB can work loose or sustain damage from vibration or moisture. Inspect the connector for secure seating, bent pins, and signs of corrosion or burning.
- 04
Failed indoor unit control PCB
Part replacementIf 0V DC is measured at the motor wires with the motor plugged in, the board is not supplying drive voltage and is likely defective. A shorted motor can sometimes pull the board into failure as well, so both components should be evaluated.
- 05
Motor shorted internally causing board damage
Part replacementA motor that shorts internally can damage the PCB in addition to failing itself. If 0V DC is measured at the motor connector after unplugging the motor and spinning the fan, both the motor and potentially the control board will need replacement.
