The OE code means the water level sensor has detected that water is at or above the overflow level, or the sensor is producing a frequency reading that the control board interprets as an overflow condition. The washer responds by automatically activating the drain pump to bring the water level back down to a safe range. The two most common causes are a stuck-open water inlet valve and a defective water level sensor.

You should not continue running wash cycles while the OE code is active. The code exists because the machine has detected a potential overflow condition, and if the inlet valve is actually stuck open, continuing to operate the washer could result in water overflowing onto your floor. Wait until the root cause has been diagnosed and corrected before resuming normal use.

Performing a reset may temporarily clear the OE code from the display, but it will not fix the underlying problem. If the water inlet valve is stuck open or the water level sensor is defective, the fault condition will return once the washer attempts to fill again. A reset is only useful to confirm whether the error was a one-time glitch. If the code comes back after a reset, the valve and sensor need to be inspected and tested.

Some causes of the OE code are DIY-friendly. You can inspect the air pressure hose connected to the water level sensor for kinks, blockages, or loose connections and correct those without special tools. Checking whether the water inlet valve is stuck open is also a straightforward visual inspection. Replacing the water level sensor or the inlet valve requires basic appliance repair skills and disconnecting water supply lines, which many experienced DIYers can handle safely.

A new water inlet valve generally runs $25 to $75 depending on the specific model.
