What ECEu means on a Electrolux oven
The ECEu error code on an Electrolux oven indicates a failure in the top cavity thermocouple (labeled TCAV UP in the control system). The thermocouple is a temperature-sensing device that generates a small millivolt signal proportional to heat. The oven's Appliance Control Unit (ACU) continuously monitors this signal to regulate cooking temperature in the upper cavity. When the ACU detects that the thermocouple signal is absent, out of range, or inconsistent, it triggers the ECEu fault and halts the active cooking cycle. The one exception is steam cycles operating at 100 degrees Celsius, which may continue under specific conditions.
The fault points to three primary failure areas: the wiring and connector at the ACU (specifically connector X18), the thermocouple sensor itself, or an internal failure within the ACU. Connector X18 is the designated interface between the top cavity thermocouple circuit and the control board. Corrosion, a loose pin, or a damaged connector at X18 can interrupt the signal without the sensor itself being defective. The thermocouple sensor can also fail due to physical damage, heat stress over time, or an open circuit in the sensor element, producing no usable signal for the ACU to interpret.
Diagnosis begins by checking the thermocouple signal output at the connector. A functioning thermocouple produces a voltage that rises with temperature. If the signal is absent or flat, inspect connector X18 on the ACU for corrosion, bent pins, or loose seating before condemning the sensor. If the connector is intact and the sensor reads incorrectly, replace the thermocouple. If a new thermocouple and confirmed good wiring do not resolve the code, ACU replacement should be considered.

Common causes of ECEu
- 01
Loose or corroded connector at X18 on the ACU
Wiring / connectionThe X18 connector on the Appliance Control Unit links the top cavity thermocouple circuit to the board. A loose pin, corroded terminal, or improperly seated connector can break the signal path and trigger ECEu without the sensor itself being faulty.
- 02
Failed top cavity thermocouple (TCAV UP)
Part replacementThe thermocouple sensor can develop an open circuit or degrade from repeated heat cycling, causing it to produce no signal or an out-of-range reading. Checking the sensor's output voltage at operating temperature will confirm whether it is functioning correctly.
- 03
Damaged thermocouple wiring
Part replacementThe wiring harness between the thermocouple and the ACU can be pinched, burned, or broken, especially near high-heat areas of the oven cavity. A visual inspection and continuity check of the harness will identify any open or short circuit.
- 04
ACU (Appliance Control Unit) failure
Part replacementIf the thermocouple, connector, and wiring all test correctly, an internal failure within the ACU may be preventing it from reading the sensor signal. ACU failure is the least common cause and should only be considered after the other components have been ruled out.
