What RINSE (flashing) means on a GE dishwasher
On GE value-model dishwashers, a flashing RINSE indicator signals that the control has detected insufficient water entering the tub during the fill cycle. The dishwasher monitors how much water should be present by the time a fill cycle completes, and when that threshold is not met, the control halts the cycle and displays this alert. This is a water supply fault, not a component failure in most cases, meaning the root cause is often external to the dishwasher itself.
The fill system on these dishwashers depends on adequate household water pressure, an open supply valve, and an unobstructed inlet path. If the shutoff valve under the sink is partially or fully closed, or if there is a broader interruption to household water service, the dishwasher cannot draw in enough water to proceed. Low water pressure from the supply line can also mimic a shutoff condition, causing the fill to time out before the tub reaches the required level.
When this code appears, the first step is to unlatch the door and inspect the bottom of the tub. If the tub is dry or nearly dry, the problem is almost certainly on the supply side. Confirm the shutoff valve is fully open, verify that water is flowing normally at nearby faucets, and check for any kinks or blockages in the supply line to the dishwasher. After addressing the supply issue, pressing RESET and restarting the cycle will allow the dishwasher to attempt a new fill. If water is present in the tub despite the error, the issue may point to a faulty water inlet valve or a control-related fault.

Common causes of RINSE (flashing)
- 01
Water supply valve closed or partially closed
Wiring / connectionThe shutoff valve under the sink that feeds the dishwasher may be fully or partially closed, restricting water flow into the tub. Open the valve completely and confirm water flows freely before restarting the cycle.
- 02
Household water supply interruption
Wiring / connectionA temporary shutoff or disruption to the home's main water supply will prevent the dishwasher from filling. Check that water flows normally at other faucets in the home before troubleshooting the dishwasher further.
- 03
Inadequate household water pressure
Wiring / connectionLow water pressure from the supply line can cause the fill cycle to time out before enough water enters the tub. If pressure seems low at nearby faucets as well, the issue is with the home supply rather than the dishwasher.
- 04
Kinked or obstructed supply line
Wiring / connectionThe braided or plastic supply hose connecting the shutoff valve to the dishwasher inlet can become kinked, pinched, or clogged, reducing flow even when the valve is open. Inspect the hose behind or beneath the unit for physical restrictions.
- 05
Faulty water inlet valve
Part replacementIf the supply side checks out and the tub still receives little or no water, the water inlet valve inside the dishwasher may be defective or have a clogged screen, preventing it from opening properly during the fill cycle.
