What E07 means on a GE dryer
Error code E07 on a GE dryer indicates a miswiring condition at the AC power input. Specifically, the control board has detected a voltage greater than 162 volts between the L1 (hot) and Neutral (N) lines. Under correct wiring, the voltage between L1 and Neutral on a standard residential circuit should read approximately 120 volts AC. When the L1 and Neutral conductors are swapped or incorrectly terminated at the terminal block, the control board sees an abnormal voltage level that falls outside acceptable operating parameters, triggering this fault.
This fault is almost always a wiring issue rather than a component failure. The most common scenario involves incorrect installation of the dryer's power supply cord, where the L1 (hot) wire and the Neutral wire are connected to the wrong terminals on the dryer's terminal block. This can also occur when a 3-wire or 4-wire cord is improperly installed during a cord replacement or appliance relocation. On 4-wire installations, if the neutral and a hot leg are transposed, the voltage relationship measured by the board will be incorrect and exceed the 162-volt threshold.
Diagnosing E07 requires measuring the actual voltages present at the terminal block before suspecting the control board. Use a multimeter to check the voltage between L1 and Neutral at the dryer terminal block. The reading should be approximately 120 volts AC. If the reading is significantly higher than 120 volts, the wiring at the terminal block or at the wall outlet must be corrected before the dryer is operated. Running the dryer with incorrect wiring can damage the control board and other components.

Common causes of E07
- 01
Incorrectly installed power cord
Wiring / connectionThe L1 (hot) and Neutral wires on the dryer's terminal block are swapped. This is the most frequent cause, especially after a power cord replacement or when converting between 3-wire and 4-wire configurations.
- 02
Improper wiring at the wall outlet or junction box
Wiring / connectionThe hot and neutral conductors may be reversed at the dryer's dedicated 240-volt wall outlet or at the circuit's junction box. A multimeter check at the outlet will confirm if the issue is upstream of the dryer.
- 03
Loose or incorrectly seated terminal block connections
Wiring / connectionA wire that has slipped from its correct terminal and contacted an adjacent terminal can create a miswired condition. Inspect each wire at the terminal block to confirm secure and correct placement.
- 04
Damaged or incorrect replacement power cord
Part replacementA power cord with non-standard wire coloring or a damaged cord where wire identification is unclear can lead to incorrect installation. Verify the cord type (3-wire or 4-wire) matches the installation requirements and that each conductor is correctly identified.
- 05
Faulty control board misreading input voltage
Part replacementIn rare cases, the control board itself may incorrectly sense and report an overvoltage condition even when wiring is correct. This should only be considered after confirming with a multimeter that L1 and Neutral voltages at the terminal block are correct.
