What EHC means on a Electrolux washer
The EHC error code on an Electrolux washer indicates a Line WD relay failure, specifically an incongruence between the line WD relay sensing circuit and the actual relay status. The WD relay (also referred to as the water drain or winding relay depending on context) is controlled and monitored by the main control board. When the board commands the relay to open or close, it simultaneously monitors feedback signals to confirm the relay has responded correctly. If the sensed state does not match the commanded state, the board registers this mismatch as an EHC fault and halts operation to prevent potential damage or unsafe conditions.
This type of relay incongruence can stem from several root causes. The relay itself may have welded contacts, meaning the contacts have fused together and the relay cannot open even when commanded to do so. Alternatively, a relay that fails to close when commanded will also trigger this mismatch. In either case, the control board detects that the physical state of the relay does not align with the expected output signal. Internal relay coil failure, carbon buildup on contacts, or mechanical relay failure can all produce this condition.
Because the sensing circuit and relay drive circuit are both routed through the main control board, a failure on the board itself can produce identical fault symptoms without the relay being defective. Damaged traces, failed driver transistors, or a faulty feedback circuit on the board can cause the sensed relay state to read incorrectly. The first diagnostic step is to inspect and test the main board, checking for visible burn marks, damaged components, or relay solder joint failures before condemning the relay itself.

Common causes of EHC
- 01
Faulty main control board
Part replacementThe main board houses the relay driver circuit and the feedback sensing circuit. A failed transistor, damaged trace, or defective relay mounted directly on the board can cause the sensed relay state to mismatch the commanded state.
- 02
Welded or stuck relay contacts
Part replacementRelay contacts can fuse together due to excessive current or arcing, preventing the relay from opening when commanded. This creates a permanent mismatch between the board's output command and the sensed contact state.
- 03
Relay coil failure
Part replacementIf the relay coil has an open or short circuit, the relay will not actuate when the board sends a drive signal. The sensing circuit will then detect the relay did not change state as expected.
- 04
Loose or corroded wiring connections
Wiring / connectionPoor connections between the relay circuit and the control board can interrupt the feedback signal, causing the board to read an incorrect relay status. Inspect connectors at the main board for corrosion, pushed-back pins, or loose terminals.
- 05
Power surge or voltage irregularity
Part replacementAn incoming power surge can damage relay driver components on the main board, causing a one-time or recurring relay status mismatch. Check the board for visible burn marks or component damage near the relay section.
