LG Refrigerator Error Code 15E

The 15E code indicates an ice maker sensor error in the fresh food or fridge compartment. The refrigerator has detected a problem with the thermistor circuit, which could be caused by sensor separation, a loose or corroded connector, a broken wire, or a short circuit. The main PCB monitors this sensor through connector CN90, and voltage at pins CN90-1 and CN90-7 should read between 1.0V and 4.5V under normal conditions.

A power reset may temporarily clear the 15E code, but the error will return if the underlying sensor fault has not been corrected. Resetting the unit is useful for confirming whether the fault is intermittent or persistent, but it should not be relied on as a fix. The sensor circuit must be diagnosed and repaired to permanently resolve the code.

Repair costs vary depending on the root cause. If only the ice maker thermistor needs replacement, parts typically range from $15 to $50, with professional labor adding $75 to $150. If the main PCB is at fault, parts alone can range from $100 to $300 or more. Cleaning corroded connectors yourself costs nothing beyond a contact cleaner product.

Some causes of the 15E error are DIY-friendly. Checking the sensor harness for visible damage, reseating connectors, and cleaning corroded pins at CN90 do not require special tools. However, measuring voltage at the main PCB connector requires a multimeter and basic electrical knowledge. If the thermistor or main PCB needs replacement, comfort with appliance disassembly is necessary.

The 15E error does not indicate a safety hazard such as a fire or electrical shock risk under normal circumstances. However, the ice maker may stop functioning correctly while the fault is active, and food stored in the fridge section should be monitored to confirm temperatures remain stable. It is best to address the error promptly to avoid further issues with the ice maker system.
