Short-term use is generally possible, but the refrigerator may not maintain temperatures as accurately without a functioning evaporator sensor. Defrost cycle timing can be affected, which may eventually lead to frost buildup on the evaporator coil and reduced cooling performance. It is best to address the fault promptly to avoid food safety risks and potential secondary damage.

Repair costs vary depending on whether the issue is a wiring repair or a full sensor replacement.
