The control board cannot receive a valid temperature reading from the sensor, so it shuts off the refrigerator temperature display while turning on all other display LEDs simultaneously. The refrigerator compartment may not cool properly until the fault is resolved.

A reset may temporarily clear the code from the display, but the error will return if the underlying wiring fault or sensor failure has not been repaired. The root cause, whether a cut wire, short circuit, or failed sensor, must be corrected to permanently resolve the fault.

If only the wiring needs repair, costs are generally lower and may fall in the range of $50 to $150 for a service call and labor. If the evaporator sensor itself needs replacement, parts and labor combined typically range from $100 to $300 depending on the specific model and local labor rates. A control board replacement, if required, would be at the higher end of the cost spectrum.

Start by inspecting the wiring harness connected to the refrigerator evaporator sensor for any visible damage, cuts, or signs of a short circuit. Check the connector terminals for corrosion and make sure the connector is fully plugged in. If the wiring looks intact, test the sensor's resistance to determine whether the sensor itself needs to be replaced.

Continuing to run the refrigerator with an active evaporator sensor fault is not recommended. Without accurate temperature feedback from the sensor, the control board cannot properly regulate the cooling cycle, which puts your food at risk of spoiling.
