What E32 means on a GE washer
The E32 error code on a GE washer indicates a Pump Current Detection Circuit Error within the drive system. This fault occurs when the control board detects that the electrical current draw of the drain pump falls outside the expected operating range. The normal pump current during operation should read between 1.5 and 3.5 amps. Any reading below or above this window signals an abnormal condition that the control board interprets as a circuit detection failure, triggering the E32 code and halting the wash cycle.
The pump current detection circuit is responsible for monitoring the amperage supplied to the drain pump motor in real time. When current drops too low, it typically indicates an open circuit, a failed pump motor winding, or a wiring break between the control board and the pump. When current reads too high, it suggests a mechanical obstruction in the pump, a shorted winding, or a failing pump motor drawing excessive load. The detection circuit itself on the control board can also fail, producing a false E32 reading even when the pump and wiring are intact.
Diagnosing this fault requires entering the washer's Service Mode and reading the live pump current value. If the reading falls outside the 1.5 to 3.5 amp range, focus on the pump assembly and its wiring harness. If the current reads within range during Service Mode but the error still appears during normal operation, the control board's detection circuit is the likely culprit. Always inspect the pump filter and impeller for blockages before condemning electrical components.

Common causes of E32
- 01
Drain Pump Obstruction
Wiring / connectionForeign objects such as coins, debris, or lint trapped in the pump impeller can cause the motor to draw abnormally high current. Inspect and clean the pump filter and impeller to rule this out before testing electrical components.
- 02
Failed Drain Pump Motor
Part replacementA worn or burned pump motor with shorted or open windings will produce a current reading outside the 1.5 to 3.5 amp normal range. If the impeller spins freely but current is still abnormal in Service Mode, the pump motor likely needs replacement.
- 03
Damaged Wiring Harness or Connector
Wiring / connectionA broken wire, corroded terminal, or loose connector between the control board and the pump can cause intermittent or absent current readings. Visually inspect the pump wiring harness and check connector seating at both ends.
- 04
Faulty Control Board Detection Circuit
Part replacementIf pump current reads within the normal 1.5 to 3.5 amp range during Service Mode testing but the E32 error still triggers during regular operation, the detection circuit on the control board itself may be defective. This requires control board replacement.
- 05
Pump Capacitor Failure
Part replacementSome GE washer pump circuits rely on a run capacitor to maintain stable motor operation. A failed capacitor can cause erratic current draw that trips the detection circuit even when the pump motor itself is otherwise functional.
